Where to put the dog on vacation?

London, baby! We decided to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary exactly where we once went on our honeymoon, namely in London. But what about animals?

Traveling long distances or for long periods of time is a problem when you decide to start your own home zoo like we did.

The cat is not so difficult to take care of, as it is enough to change the litter in the cat toilet, he has food and drink in the tank and he does not need to be walked several times a day (we roped in my sister-in-law - Loro's sister for that). But what about the half-wolf that no one dares to meet? Our solution in such cases is a hotel for dogs.

The first time I was terribly worried when we left Wolf at the hotel. He was two years old at the time, which I spent with him without a break, and just like a mother when she leaves her child for several days for the first time, I felt incomplete without his paws by my side. But Wolf managed it much better. He was used to the environment, we took him to Canislog in Poprad for basic training from the time he was six months old, and he immediately fell in love with trainer Jozef. He always pulls and is happy when we go there.

I can't imagine leaving Wolf in a strange environment with strange people for a long time without knowing that he knows and likes the environment. For the first time, we went to a concert in Prague, which we received as a gift, and we only went for two quick days (while the train journey took 8 hours there and 8 hours back) and already when we were sitting in Poprad on the train, Jozef sent me a photo of a satisfied Wolf, who was just getting to know a female dog, which made my journey much easier.

Actually, he copes the worst with the initial isolation when we put him in the pen, he can be heard loudly for quite a while, but he finally gave us an acting performance worthy of a dog's Oscar. We dropped him off at the gate, he was jumping and barking as always, and as soon as the car door slammed behind us, he threw a dramatic pirouette and strode across the campus with his nanny on his heels with a smile.

He doesn't stay in the hotel very often, because we try to do as many trips as possible with him (he traveled with us by train several times to Prague), but for our travel plans with Wolf, we would need a large car or ideally a caravan. He stays at the hotel approximately once every six months for two to four days. We weren't ready for a longer separation either.

We make the hotel reservation through their form on the website, and in addition to the veterinary certificate and exact amounts of food, we also packed a bed, two chewing bones and a toy for him at the hotel. He was pulling towards the gate and towards Jozef like a wild animal, but the laughter passed him behind the door of the pen, where his crying always makes my heart burst when we leave him there. But we know that it doesn't last long.

Jozef told me that Wolf was slightly nervous in the pen, especially when he saw them walking another dog and then he was a little jealous. But he was calm and communicated well during walks.

We like Wolf because he is used to us and behaves decently. It is excellent if the owners devote time to training and education at an early age, then the dog is calm and communicates well. Here you can see the work of its owners.

Picking up almost always takes place in such a way that after ringing the bell, we go to get Wolf to his pen, pack our things and pay for the stay, this time he was already waiting for us at the gate and he was jumping happily.

We have never had a negative experience with his stay at the hotel, and we have been staying there regularly for six years. Jozef had a unique approach to Wolf during training as well. Since Jozef mainly breeds German Shepherds, the training and upbringing of the Czechoslovakian wolfdog is different, and thanks to his special approach to Wolf, we know that we are leaving him in good hands.

But what would we like to advise you if you are planning to accommodate your dog in a hotel for the first time? Don't neglect preparation. Your dog may not tolerate being in a foreign environment well and may show signs of emotional shock after the stay. Before a planned trip or vacation, try to schedule a few hours of training in the Canislog environment so that your dog has a positive experience with people, the trainer and the place.

Also, don't leave him in the hotel for a long time the first time. He can be there only from morning to night and he will know that you are not leaving him and you will come back for him. Thanks to these steps, you can avoid separation anxiety and trauma in your dog much more easily.

You can read more information about accommodation as well as training and Canislog HERE on their website.
